If you would like to be a part of our future team, please apply now!<\/p>\n<p>A Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) assists surgeons during operative procedures, performing advanced technical functions under the surgeon&#8217;s supervision. This role includes pre , intra , and post operative nursing care to enhance surgical outcomes, improve efficiency, and maintain patient safety. This position is Full Time, Monday &#8211; Friday, shifts starting at 6:30\/7:00am, may require on-call rotation or call coverage<\/p>\n<p>Role &amp; Responsibilities<\/p>\n<p>Pre operative Duties<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Conduct comprehensive patient assessments (e.g., history review, physical evaluation).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Provide pre surgical patient\/family education and teaching<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Ensure proper surgical positioning, preparation, and draping of the patient<\/p>\n<p>Intra operative Duties (as RN First Assistant)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Provide surgical field exposure: use of retractors, suction, sponges.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Achieve hemostasis: clamp, ligate vessels, use electrocautery, apply pressure<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Handle tissues appropriately, perform precise dissection (including vessel, muscle, fascia).<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Suture closures under supervision: peritoneum, fascia, subcuticular, skin<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Place drains when directed by the surgeon.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 May cannulate for cardiopulmonary bypass or assist in advanced specialties (e.g., CVOR, orthopedics, robotics)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Maintain aseptic technique and instrument sterilization.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Participate in instrument and sponge counts, uphold surgical safety protocols<\/p>\n<p>Post operative Duties<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Apply and manage surgical dressings.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Evaluate post operative patients for complications and provide teaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Work with the team to ensure seamless transition of care.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Document perioperative events in EMRs like Cerner, SurgiNet<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration &amp; Leadership<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Coordinate and collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, scrub and circulating nurses, and perioperative staff<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Provide leadership in the OR, uphold professional nursing standards, and mentor junior staff<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI), research, performance evaluations, and in services<\/p>\n<p>Physical\/Environmental Requirements<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Sustain prolonged standing, lifting\/positioning adult patients (?35?lbs), and maintaining dexterity under sterile conditions<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and potentially hazardous materials<\/p>\n<p>Qualifications<\/p>\n<p>Required<\/p>\n<p>1. Registered Nurse (RN) license, active and in good standing\u2014specifically licensure in Illinois<\/p>\n<p>2. Completion of an accredited RNFA program (didactic &amp; clinical per AORN standards)<\/p>\n<p>3. Perioperative nursing certification (CNOR) required before or shortly after hire<\/p>\n<p>4. RNFA certification (CRNFA) from recognized board within 2 years of hire<\/p>\n<p>5.
