The Primary Homeroom Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging and inclusive classroom environment where every student is supported to flourish as a confident, curious and compassionate learner. Grounded in the school\u2019s mission, vision and values, and guided by the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Homeroom Teacher designs and delivers high-quality, inquiry-based learning that nurtures the whole child, academically, socially and emotionally. As a mentor and role model, the Homeroom Teacher works collaboratively with colleagues, parents and the wider community to ensure student learning and well-being, while fostering lifelong learning and international-mindedness.<\/p>\n<p>Roles reporting to the Position<\/p>\n<p>NA<\/p>\n<p>Primary Responsibilities?<\/p>\n<p>Learning and Teaching Design and deliver transdisciplinary, inquiry-based units of learning that align with the PYP framework and our curriculum outcomes. Use a range of teaching strategies, differentiation and scaffolding to meet the diverse learning needs of students. Embed the development of Approaches to Learning (ATL), learner profile attributes and school values in daily practice. Integrate literacy and numeracy learning across the curriculum in line with school-wide standards and practices (e.g., Fountas &amp; Pinnell BAS, guided reading, mathematical inquiry). Incorporate technology meaningfully to support creativity, collaboration and problem-solving. Provide opportunities for experiential and service learning, including field trips, guest speakers and student-led initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Assessment and Reporting Use a balance of assessment for (formative), of (summative) and as (self\/reflection) to guide teaching and support student growth. Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to school-wide data analysis. Prepare and share timely, meaningful reports and portfolios with students and families, highlighting strengths, challenges and next steps. Provide constructive, ongoing feedback that fosters reflection, improvement and student agency.<\/p>\n<p>Collaboration and Professional Learning Work closely with co-teachers, associate teachers, specialists and instructional coaches to plan, deliver and reflect on learning experiences. Participate actively in planning meetings, staff meetings and professional learning communities. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and review curriculum, policies and school initiatives. Engage in ongoing professional growth, attending workshops, training and IB-related professional development as required.<\/p>\n<p>Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care Take responsibility for the holistic care and development of students in the homeroom. Build a safe, respectful and inclusive classroom community that supports positive relationships and student agency. Manage student behaviour in a proactive, supportive and respectful manner. Safeguard the physical, emotional and social well-being of students, following school guidelines and child protection policies.<\/p>\n<p>Family and Community Engagement Build strong, respectful partnerships with parents to support student learning and wellbeing. Communicate regularly and effectively with parents through conferences, meetings and written updates. Involve families in the learning journey by showcasing student work and encouraging home\u2013school connections. Participate in parent workshops, school events and community-building initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Professionalism and School Contribution Uphold our guiding statements, policies and professional code of conduct. Contribute to ongoing curriculum development and PYP programme evaluation. Participate in professional learning, reflection and appraisal processes. Stay current with best practices in early childhood education, play-based and inquiry-driven learning. Qualifications?<\/p>\n<p>Minimum Bachelor\u2019s degree in Education.<\/p>\n<p>Good to have Master\u2019s degree in Education. Strong knowledge of inquiry-based pedagogy.<\/p>\n<p>Experience<\/p>\n<p>Minimum Familiarity with the IB PYP philosophy, standards and practices strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to differentiate for diverse learners and support English language development. Proficiency in integrating technology into learning. Excellent communication, collaboration and classroom management skills.
